What does the recruitment journey look like?
To get things started, we’ll ask you to send in your CV, answer some of our online screening questions and complete a video interview. If we feel like you’re the right fit for us, we’ll ask you to come along to our assessment centres.
What are the minimum requirements to apply?
Our placement is open to any student at a UK university who is eligible to work full-time in the UK for twelve months. Students should be on a sandwich degree or course which offers a one-year industrial placement. We’re looking for strong academic achievers but we also want well-rounded, ambitious people with plenty of motivation and a ‘can-do’ attitude. You’ll be working alongside senior members of our team on important projects, so your written and verbal communication skills must be exemplary and it's important that you’re a strong team player who wants to learn more about our business.
What kind of person are you looking for?
We’re all driven by different things. What matters is that you’re just that: driven. We’re looking for people with the energy and determination to pursue a successful, long-term career, and who seek out opportunities to learn, develop and take responsibility. If you share that desire, you’re the kind of person we want to work with.
Can I apply if I have a disability?
Yes, of course. We’re an equal opportunities employer and we welcome applications from all candidates. Please let us know if you have any special requirements so that we can take these into consideration during the recruitment process.
If I get an Undergraduate placement, where will I be based?
All positions are based in the Volkswagen Group UK head office in Milton Keynes.
What’s the package on offer?
£17,500 per year plus a discretionary bonus.
What development is available on the placements?
As well as a challenging placement you’ll receive structured learning and development throughout your time with us. This includes a buddy, regular meetings with your managers, shadowing opportunities and the chance to be considered for the Graduate programme.
You can take on any extra projects that interest you and we’ll teach you useful business skills throughout the programme, including usage of corporate systems (e.g. Microsoft Office), time management and organisation, presentation skills, and commercial awareness courses.
What does the 12 month placement look like?
It’s a combination of project work, personal development and experiences designed to fully immerse you in our business.
How is my placement decided?
When you send us your application, you’ll be asked to apply for a particular stream, such as Finance or Marketing. Our HR team will then allocate placements based on where we think you’ll fit in best. It’s important to remember that all of our placements are equally challenging, and will give you the opportunity to work with a variety of people from across the Group.
What happens at the end of the placement?
Throughout your twelve months with us, we’ll be supporting you and tracking your progress. As you develop, we’ll sit down with you to talk about your longer term aspirations and what the Graduate programme can offer you. If you’re interested in taking the next step, we’ll offer you an assessment and, if you’re successful, we’ll offer you a place on the following year’s intake.
Why are the adverts based on streams rather than specific roles?
We have over placements across our business which fall into 6 main disciplines which make up the streams. Our team will then allocate placements based on where we think you’ll fit in best. It’s important to remember that all of our placements are equally challenging, and will give you the opportunity to work with a variety of people from across the Group.
Our assessment process includes online testing as well as video interviews. To find out more information and apply, search Undergraduate Programme in the search bar.
